Job description

Title: Python and Data Analytics Instructor

Hours: You will be working in EST. Hours fluctuate depending on boot camp hours or other projects, like instructional panels. Bootcamp hours are Monday- Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM EST. The one-off project is a couple of nights a week for 4 weeks, as a 4-month course, working 6 PM EST – 10 PM EST.

Interview process: The process will include a panel interview that will include a teaching demo.

This is a permanent internal Full Time (Remote) Position

You will work with a teaching assistant, but not have anyone reporting to you.

As an instructor, you will ensure that students acquire the technical and professional skills they need to succeed. We provide you with the curriculum. You provide your enthusiasm for programming and industry insight. Instructors guide students through the job-ready curriculum and share developer skills, tips, and tricks to help budding developers prepare for a career in technology.

 

You do not teach in a silo. You work closely with other team members dedicated to student success: teaching assistants, program managers, career services, and even the curriculum & instructional managers, to name a few.

 

You also contribute to the culture and success of all our students by attending student events such as product pitches, technical endorsements, and demo days. In addition, you can be assigned to teach micro-courses and introduction to coding workshops, as well as collaborate with colleagues on special projects.

 

In action, this means that instructors are responsible for:

  • Building a supportive classroom environment for all learners
  • Leading daily classroom activities include everything from technical lectures to labs, to review sessions, to project demos.
  • Providing real-world examples and technical context for lessons to help students learn in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Providing timely and helpful feedback to students in the classroom and responding to inquiries on community channels
  • Collaborating with other members of the Grand Circus team – program managers, curriculum managers, teaching assistants, and the Director of Learning – about student progress and classroom needs
  • Contributing to curriculum development, program development, and other Grand Circus projects.
  • Contributing to other areas, such as student events, special projects, and other relevant duties as assigned.

 

Qualification:

  • Has at least 2 years of developer experience with Python and Data Analytics and Engineering.
  • Is competent to teach the following topics:
  • Languages: Python, SQL
  • Platforms & Frameworks: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, PowerBI, Kafka, PySpark, Docker
  • Python Libraries: numpy, pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, fastapi
  • Tools: PyCharm, Jupyter Notebooks, GitBash/Terminal
  • Advanced knowledge of Git, Github, and CI/CD
  • Can demonstrate advanced knowledge of Python, SQL, data analytics, and data engineering (through work experience, schooling, technical assessment, or all three!)
  • Strong communication skills and reliable judgment about standards of professional communication
  • Can explain and demonstrate complicated programming concepts in beginner-friendly language.
  • Is passionate about mentoring, teaching, and student success.
  • Cares deeply about the community
  • Obsesses about preparation and organization.
  • Is open to giving and receiving feedback.
  • Can handle the fast pace and quick changes of startup life.
  • Some experience teaching technology and helping students succeed is highly desirable.

 

It would be awesome if our new instructor also…

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in data science, data analytics, computer science, software engineering, and related fields.
  • Has 2 - 3 years of teaching experience, especially online teaching
  • Has additional work experience in software development with relevant technologies, especially machine learning and AI.
  • Experience working within a Learning Management System.
